Nearly all Ethiopian opal is exported as rough - processed and traded abroad. The value and income generated in Ethiopia is small. Our mission is to establish centers of excellence and innovation along the value chain. We believe in fair practices for trade and employment, in sharing and community-building. We support the government to retain value in the gemstone sector through building local capacity. We also promote Ethiopian opal as a unique, valuable stone of often breathtaking beauty.

ethiOpal is your new, local source for the principal Ethiopian gemstone! We are based in Ethiopia and have two decades of experience in working with and trading of Ethiopian opal. We are close to the mining communities, use and build local expertise, create decent jobs, and promote the beauty and value of Ethiopian opal.
EGC GEMS is our Addis-based gemstone laboratory and training center.
We deal mainly with opal, but also with sapphire, ruby, emerald and other precious stones. Our mission is to support capacity building and value addition in the gemstone sector.
